Pling System – How It Works
What is Pling System?
Pling System is a digital ecosystem composed of multiple software components.
In reality, you only need:
PlingQuest
PlingServer
With these two apps, you can view your desktop inside a virtual environment — such as a living room, bedroom, or office — projected onto a virtual screen.
Highly recommended to also check out these two apps: Pling3D and MacDisplayer / PCDisplayer.
The connection works via USB cable.
This system is designed specifically for content consumption:
Watching movies
Playing flat or 3D games
Enjoying media inside a virtual environment
It is NOT compatible with PCVR, and it is not an alternative to Virtual Desktop.
The app is completely free for everyone.
If you enjoy it, please consider:
Leaving feedback
Recommending it to friends
The app is free to use, but:
Redistribution outside this platform is strictly prohibited
The source code is closed
Installation Guide
Step 1 – Install Pling Quest
Install the PlingQuest APK on your Meta Quest using:
SideQuest
Or any method you prefer
Step 2 – Install Pling Server
Install Pling Server on your Mac or PC.
Step 3 – Connect via USB
Connect your Quest and your computer using a USB cable:
Preferably USB 3.0
USB 2.0 works perfectly for 1080p
Must be a data cable, not just a charging cable
Resolution Configuration (VERY IMPORTANT)
Resolution is the most important setting.
On USB 2.0 → 1080p works perfectly
Higher than 1080p may cause:
Lag
Spontaneous disconnections
Increasing your Mac’s Retina resolution will not improve image quality.
The system is optimized for movies and games.
It is not ideal for productivity work, because text clarity in VR can be challenging.
Recommended Limits
Quest 2 → Do NOT exceed 1080p
Quest 3S → Do NOT exceed 1440p
Higher resolutions may:
Overheat your system
Increase CPU usage (both Quest and computer must decode frames)
How to Start
Open the app on the Quest first
Accept the connection
The USB tunnel will be created
You can press Restart to reopen the connection tunnel.
(The tunnel works once per physical USB connection.)
Select the display you want to share — and that’s it.
You will now see your desktop inside your Quest.
Important Recommendation
When you are finished, press STOP on the computer while the Quest is still connected via USB.
Why?
Pling uses a visual optimization system similar to what Quest Games Optimizer does:
Forces 120Hz on the headset
Improves edge clarity
Enhances overall visual sharpness
Since the device is connected via USB, battery drain isn’t important tho —
but these optimizations increase performance load and battery usage.
Pressing STOP disables these optimizations.
Plug & Play Philosophy
There is:
No UI
No advanced configuration
Everything is pre-optimized for the best possible experience.
It works like a TV:
Plug USB → Start connection → Done.
Important Audio Disclaimer
If you enable audio streaming to the Quest:
Your computer will appear almost muted
It’s not fully muted, but heavily reduced, you won't hear anything from the mac.
If you want audio from your computer speakers:
→ Disable audio sharing
If you want audio in your Quest:
→ Enable audio sharing
🎮 Controls
SBS Modes
Press A or X to change display modes:
0 → 2D
1 → Full SBS
2 → Half SBS
3 → Up/Down
Always uses LR (Left-Right) format.
If your video is RL, configure your video output to LR.
Change Environment
Press B or Y
Switch between different rooms inside the same house.
(Currently Sketchfab meshes — custom environments coming soon.)
Lights Control
Use both joystick like a light switch:
Up → Turn lights ON
Down → Turn lights OFF
Image Adjustments
Gamma & Saturation
Hold both Primary Trigger + Joystick
Double tap to reset to default.
Brightness & Contrast
Hold both Secondary Trigger + Joystick
Double tap to reset to default.
That’s it.
Pling System is designed to be simple, direct, and plug-and-play —
like connecting an HDMI cable to a virtual television inside your Quest.
